OWL Program

Owl Program

KKCO News -

Students with the D51 Career Center are building tents for the Outdoor Wilderness Lab in Gateway.

The OWL program offers outdoor education to 6th graders. These tents will be a space for students to sleep while they take part in science-based activities.

The students who build these tents are gaining important life skills from it.

“You know, we’ve had a few challenges," says David Garrick, Instructor. "Not only do they get to problem solve but they get to watch me problem solve. It’s a big part of construction is having the skill set to problem solve and make things work.”

The program was originally only for 6th graders at Bookcliff Middle School, but now will be offered to all 6th graders across the district.

The new tents are set to be put up and ready to go by March 2020.
